BIOFUELS GUIDANCE
PUMP STICKERS:
- Ethanol blended fuel classified as higher than E-10 shall have a visible, legible “for flex fuel vehicle only” sticker on the pump or pump handle.
- Ethanol blended gasoline shall be designated E-xx where “xx” is the volume percent of ethanol in the ethanol blended gasoline and biodiesel shall be designated B-xx where “xx” is the volume percent of biodiesel.
- Octane rating of fuel offered for sale shall be posted on the pump in a conspicuous place. However, no octane rating shall be posted on the pump for ethanol blended fuel classified as higher than E-10.
- Ethanol/ biodiesel stickers are needed.
- The orange and black E-85 stickers with “E-85, minimum 70% ethanol” are required by the FTC.
BLENDER PUMPS:
Motor fuel blender pumps or blender pumps installed or modified after November 1, 2008, which sell both gasoline and ethanol blended gasoline classified as higher than E-10 need to have at least two hoses per pump and are to dispense fuel sold only for FFV vehicles separately from fuel for non-FFV vehicles. One pump dispenses gasoline and at least one pump dispenses ethanol blended fuels greater than E-10.
SIGN CLARITY:
Names of blended fuels should not confuse or mislead customers. Ethanol blended fuels classified as higher than E-10 should not have labels consumers are used to seeing with gasoline, such as “super premium”.
